"Aptus" is a Latin adjective for "suitable, as part, fitting, attached", much like the joints of the spine that we correct the misalignment of. It is also the root for the word "adapt", which is an important principle in upper cervical chiropractic care.
Upper cervical chiropractic is an ideal form of conservative health care to explore before delving into more invasive avenues. It provides gentle, specific correction to the spinal misalignment at the top of the neck to better allow the body to adapt and heal. The purpose of a spinal adjustment is to restore alignment to the joints, which can help to reduce pain, muscle spasms, and allow the nervous system to function at its best. If allowed to continue without correction, misalignments can create global distress and maladaptation throughout the body.
Using a series of specific x-rays and analysis, we create a custom plan to tailor care to your unique needs. We incorporate posture evaluation, muscle testing, and heat-sensitive technology to determine whether a spinal adjustment is needed. This leads to fewer adjustments over your lifetime. We do not cure anything, we realign the spine and monitor your nervous system to make sure your adjustment "holds." Our goal is to get your adjustment to hold as long as possible.
This depends on what we find during your exam and on your x-rays. It is different for every person based on health history and is something we tailor to the individual during our report of findings on your second visit. The long term goal is to get you to maintenance care, where you come in only a few times a year.
